Conducts research as part of a multidisciplinary team in chemical recycling of polymers and organometallic catalysis. The project will involve designing, synthesizing, and characterizing new recyclable polymers, and evaluating the thermomechanical properties of these materials. This research program will include studies towards understanding reaction mechanisms through reaction kinetics analysis and other physical organic and inorganic techniques.

Position Requirements

  • PhD (received or expected to receive in the next six months) in organic, organometallic, inorganic chemistry, polymer science and engineering, or related discipline, with 0 to 5 years of experience in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience

  • Experience with analytical techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy

  • Experience with gel permeation chromatography, dynamic mechanical analysis and other mechanical and rheological polymer characterization techniques would be an asset but are not a prerequisite

  • Knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of air-sensitive transition metal complexes and synthesis of polymeric materials

  • Understanding of kinetics and thermodynamics as applied to catalysis

  • Proficient in written and oral communication

  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork
