The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral appointee who, with mentoring, conducts research in supported inorganic and organometallic catalysts for the activation of small molecules as part of the EFRC Catalyst Design for Decarbonization Center (CD4DC).

The project will involve designing, synthesizing, and characterizing new metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and then evaluating the catalytic activity of these catalysts for the production of H2 from renewable resources and its storage in liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC).

The successful candidate will undergo more detailed studies towards understanding the reaction mechanisms, determining the reaction kinetics and heat of adsorption of LOHCs from liquid-phase in porous materials.

Position Requirements

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in organic, organometallic, or inorganic chemistry at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to five years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience

  • Considerable knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of metal-organic frameworks and air-sensitive transition metal complexes and in conducting kinetic and mechanistic studies is essential

  • Considerable skill in written and oral communication is a requirement

  • Experience in ligand design and analytical techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, and powder x-ray-diffraction would be an asset
